What is Card Weaving?
Card weaving, also known as tablet weaving, uses special cards instead of a traditional loom.
Each card has holes for warp yarn, and rotating them creates a twist in the yarn. When you pass a weft yarn through and rotate the cards again, that twist gets locked in place, gradually building a patterned fabric.
My cards are truly vintage-I bought them used about 30 years ago, and who knows how old they were even then!
Here's what I made.
Watch my video that explains how it all works.
This was the first time I've done card weaving in over 30 years, so I wasn't too great at it. I just wanted to show you how it works.
So if you'd like to learn more, I recommend this course by John Mullarky.
He's one of the best tablet and inkle loom weavers around, and a great teacher.
